Magic Leap is a U.S. startup company that is working on a head-mounted virtual retinal display which superimposes 3D computer-generated imagery over real world objects, by projecting a digital light field into the user's eye, involving technologies potentially suited to applications in augmented reality and computer vision.

Project overview

Razorfish was requested to create key visuals that would help raise awarness of Magic Leap's upcoming augmented reality device. With their product still being under develepoment, they wanted a way to connect with the prospect market. These key visuals were intended to showcase how their product may work in real live enviornments.

My Role

The team consisted of sketch artists, 3D artists, designers, art directors and VFX designers who were responsible for coming up with several renditions of agumented reality scenerios. This was a fast-paced and challenging enviorment but ultimetly very fun and rewarding. Collaboration was huge between team members and my role varied between art direction, design work, compositing and retouching.

Communication throughout the collaboration process was and integral factor to the success of this project. We had a short time frame but a great pool of talent and skills. Concepts were strategically shifted around between team members in order to achieve the desired look. We concepted and generated several key visuals that would be used for Magic Leap's website as well as other digital and print placements.

Sketch artists helped ideate a few concepts for the client. Sketches that were approved by the client were then refined and the collaboaration between VFX artists, 3D modelers and designers would take place. Sketches were a good starting point but concepts would evolve through rounds of reviews and client input.

Elements consisted of studio shot photography, 3D assets and stock image assets. The final composition of mixed media was handled in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
